Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 14) — Maria Angelica "Mariel" de Leon was eliminated early at the Miss International 2017 pageant on Tuesday.

Crowned as Miss International was 21-year-old Kevin Lilliana from Indonesia, succeeding previous titleholder Kylie Verzosa from the Philippines.

De Leon was among the 69 competing candidates in the pageant, held at Tokyo, Japan.

Crowned as runners-up were:

  • 1st runner-up: Chanelle De Lau from Curacao
  • 2nd runner-up: Diana Croce from Venezuela
  • 3rd runner-up: Amber Dew from Australia
  • 4th runner-up: Natsuki Tsutsui from Japan

Candidates named as the continental queens were:

  • Asia - Nam Seung Woo from Korea
  • Europe - Ashley Powell from United Kingdom
  • America - Carla Patricia Maldonado Simoni from Bolivia
  • Africa - Daniella Akorfa Awuma from Ghana
  • Oceania - Michelle Isemonger from New Zealand

The 24-year-old opera singer is the daughter of veteran actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong.

Despite being booted out of the competition early, de Leon still impressed the audience with her national costume, swimwear, and evening gown.
