Hayley Atwell plays the titular role in Marvel's TV Show "Agent Carter."

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 23) — "Agent Carter" is still not coming to Manila, but for very different reasons.

Hayley Atwell, the actress who plays the Marvel character Agent Peggy Carter in the TV show said  she could not attend Comicon Asia this year because of changes in her work schedule.

She posted a photo of a hand-written note on her Instagram account Friday saying, "I was looking forward to visiting your beautiful country and meeting you all. Unfortunately the changes to my work schedule have made it impossible for me to travel so far at this time."

Part of the caption to her post read: "My statement. My own words."

She added she was hoping to see fans at future conventions.

On Thursday, ComicCon Asia said Atwell sent them a message saying she would not be able to attend due to the "'perceived political unrest in the country" and because she was "not comfortable making the trip at this time."

ComicCon Asia confirmed her appearance on Monday after comic book legend Stan Lee couldn't make it to the event due to health reasons.

As of posting time, ComicCon Asia has not addressed Atwell's response, or taken down their post announcing Atwell's no-show.

In a statement, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Atwell's move to back out is "her loss," because it's "wrong perception" that there's political unrest in the country.

Meanwhile ComicCon posted in its Facebook page that "Stranger Things" star Dacre Montgomery will attend the convention. Montgomery plays Billy Hargrove, the brother of Max in the Netflix web television series.

"I'm looking forward to see each and every one of you at ComicCon Asia in Manila this month," Montgomery said in a video.
