Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 6) — Hashtags member Jameson Blake was willing to pay graphic designers for their services — not with cash — but with a "shoutout."

"Any graphic designers here? who's willing to make me a cover photo/banner for (ex. Youtube, twitch). I need a banner with the username "LucidExpress". Best one gets a shout out from me," he tweeted to his 340,000 followers on Wednesday. The tweet has been deleted following the backlash.

Several netizens called the "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate out for degrading the profession, but some granted his request. Needless to say, hilarity ensued.

He was given hilarious cover art to use, taking cue from brands.

Some created simple, but meme-worthy art.

Is "shoutout" now a form of payment? For the member of all-boys dance group Hashtags, it is.

Artists and netizens were outraged, calling out the actor-dancer's audacity to assume graphic artists can be paid through exposure.

Blake on Thursday addressed the issue after his request blew up.

"I apologize to all the graphic designers thinking I'm trying to degrade their artwork for something as little as a "shout-out". I know grahic designing isn't an easy job and it requires a lot of work," he tweeted.

He said he did not expecting his tweet to be blown out of proportion. He also attempted to defend himself.

"I was basically seeking volunteers no one HAD to do it. I wasn't obligating anyone to make one. It was just a favor," he said.

Blake added, "Probably a shoutout would have done nothing but I could have returned the favor by promoting the artwork. Promoting in way for the artwork to be known & exposed andyou never know, people would actually like it. But if that's not the case, just simply ignore by (sic) tweet."

Some netizens also came to his defense.
