Metro Manila (CNN Phlippines, December 8) — Lea Salonga definitely has the chops to land big roles.

The theater actress is coming home for Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group's (ATEG) 40th anniversary production of the hit musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

This, after she and her fellow cast members for the Broadway musical "Once on This Island" were nominated to win the Best Musical Theater Album category in the 2019 Grammy Awards.

Salonga will play the role of Mrs. Lovett, an impoverished meat pie shop owner in Victorian London. Business conditions aren't good--meat is expensive; her cooking is terrible; customers are scarce; and people are dying left and right.

But her business takes turn for the better when she forms a partnership with Sweeney Todd, a barber who has a few bodies that needs to be disposed of.

Turns out that human meat is a cheap and delicious substitute for stray cat meat as long as your customers don't know what they're eating.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street has had several musical theater productions all over the world, including a 2007 movie that starred Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett.

ATEG's 40th anniversary production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will run at The Theater at Solaire on October 2019. Singer Jett Pangan will star alongside Salonga as the murderous Sweeney Todd.
