Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 22) — Malls are adjusting to the rising number of Chinese nationals in the country.

Some Metro Manila malls are offering a screening of the much-anticipated Marvel film "Avengers: Endgame" with Chinese subtitles. Megaworld Lifestyle Malls advertised it is offering the service at the Newport Cinemas, Lucky Chinatown Cinemas, Southwood Cinemas, Eastwood Cinemas, and Venice Cineplex at McKinley Hill from April 24 to 28.

On the Facebook page of Southwood Mall, a number of netizens said they have purchased tickets in advance, but are now seeking a refund saying they weren't informed that the film will be shown with Chinese subtitles.

The mall replied that only select screenings will have Chinese subtitles, adding the customers were informed about it.

"As stated in the announcement and indicated in our website, only select cinemas and screenings will have Chinese subtitles. This does not automatically apply to all screenings including those wherein tickets were purchased in advance. We also ensure that customers are properly informed if the screenings they chose will have Chinese subtitles prior to their purchase," the mall operator said.

Over three million Chinese tourists have entered the country since 2016, with the Immigration Bureau recording a spike in Chinese arrivals in 2017 and 2019. The Labor Department has reported an upward trend in Chinese workers, prompting a Senate investigation.
