Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, enjoy an urban block party, an art bazaar in Cubao Expo, screenings for acclaimed local and international films, Ang Bandang Shirley’s new merchandise launch, and discounted books from Fully Booked.
It’s time to gather again at Cubao Expo and support local artists with Local Loca’s Kontra Bando, an art bazaar that caters to all your independent art needs: stickers, zines, totes, pins, patches, prints, one-of-a-kind collectibles, and more. There’s also a curated zine library by Studio Soup, a toy exhibit by Ang Tirador, and a Kontrabando exhibit. The event will be held on July 2 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
World Premieres Film Festival
The World Premieres Film Festival (WPFF) brings together the best of cinema, not only from the Philippines, but Europe and the rest of Asia as well, for premiere screenings at select locations from June 29 to July 10. Notable entries include the French thriller “By Accident,” a digital transfer of Gerardo De León’s 1961 film adaptation of “Noli Me Tangere,” the Chinese romance “Pleasure. Love.”, the Italian coming-of-age drama “One Kiss,” and the documentary “Rafea: Solar Mama,” about a struggling mother in Jordan.
There will be an International Film Expo with talks on the film industry at Cinematheque Manila from June 30 to July 2, while movies will be screened at the Shang Cineplex, SM Megamall, SM North EDSA, Uptown Cinemas, and Greenbelt 3. T-Shirt Ko’y Umaapaw: Ang Bandang Shirley’s new merchandise launch
Get to listen to soulful yet dancy tunes about love and loss as Ang Bandang Shirley unveils new limited-edition “Umaapaw” shirts and patches on July 2, 8 p.m., at Route 196 along Katipunan. Aside from promising a long set from the band, the launch will feature performances by the guest bands Ashley’s Kryptonite, Mindless Pop, Blidit, and Tom’s Story.
Makati Block Party
Spend your Sunday out with good food, live music, and activities for the whole family at the Makati Block Party on Paseo de Roxas, stretching from Ayala Avenue to Makati Avenue. Enjoy live performances from the Vince Lahorra Quartet and Johnoy Danao, meet and greet Snoopy and the Lorax, and take part in fun, free art and science events at the kiddie fair. UP Film Screening: “Stranger by the Lake”
Dakila and Metro Manila Pride are teaming up for a special screening of the French drama-thriller “Stranger by the Lake,” a film set solely in the titular area about a man in search of companionship by the director Alain Guiraudie, whose work on “Stranger by the Lake” won him Best Director at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Praised by critics for its dark humor and handling of erotic themes, the film also won the Queer Palm award. The screening is at UP Cine Adarna on July 2 at 6 p.m. Tickets are ₱150.
