Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — Quiz shows have a distinct thrill about them. Having watched the few uploaded episodes of “Jeopardy” on Netflix, there’s still pleasure to be had when you’re shouting answers at your T.V. “Dora the Explorer” style at 2 a.m., deep into your binge watch. So naturally, pub quizzes would be the next good thing to join and put to use the accumulation of Oscar winners, ‘90s T.V. show facts, and pop music detritus in my head.

Recently, CNN Philippines hosted a new iteration of its quiz night, switching to an ‘80s and ‘90s throwback theme instead of the usual sports quiz — much to the delight of the titos and titas who follow the quiz night.

Contestants came in their best ‘80s and ‘90s get up ready to take on questions about the aforementioned era, the era of cultural landmarks and milestones such as the 1994 Metro Manila Film Fest scandal, teen-oriented shows, “Friends,” and Encarta.

There were a few multiple choice questions to warm up the four competing teams — including a token millennial team who took on the questions head on — but most of the quiz night’s questions were fill in the blank, making the challenge of getting the grand prize of ₱20,000 a little more, well, challenging. The questions were divided into easy, average, and difficult rounds.

In between rounds, skills challenge gave the teams an opportunity to get more points by succeeding on physical tests. Free flowing cocktails by GSM Premium Gin also made the night more fun not just for the contestants but also for the audience and other curious onlookers at the venue. GSM Premium Gin featured excited cocktails, such as the Calamansi Surprise and an exciting Gin & Tonic Buffet, for an equally exciting night.

In the end, CNN Philippines Quiz night regulars Gang Green won the top prize, with 28 points. The runner up team, Elohim, took home ₱10,000; while the other teams all took home ₱3,000 as consolation prize. All teams also enjoyed goody bags courtesy of GSM Premium Gin.

Two contestants, Ian Siwa and Trisha Abigail Garcia, won Best in Costume with ₱2,000 and a GSM Premium Gin kit.
