Happening this week

WWIII: Paalam Malupit na Mundo by Geloy Concepcion and Post Partum by Nemo Aguila

Secret Fresh opens two new shows on Sunday, Sept. 10: Geloy Concepcion’s “WWIII: Paalam, Malupit na Mundo,” a photography and painting exhibit of the artist’s recent work, and Nemo Aguila’s “Post Partum.” The shows intersect at the artists’ backgrounds in street art: Concepcion is a street photographer, videographer, and artist, whose work “often represents his roots, the rule of the streets, stories of survival from society’s inevitable judgements,” while Aguila’s art often includes life-size illustrations of alien-like characters reminiscent of graffiti. Both shows open at 6 p.m. at the Secret Fresh Gallery.

Secret Fresh Gallery is located at RONAC Art Center, Ortigas Ave., San Juan. For more details, check the individual event pages, or the Secret Fresh Facebook page.

“Almost Doing Nothing” by Nilo Ilarde

Conceptual artist Nilo Ilarde presents three works, all seemingly "found objects arranged in puzzling and oxymoronic visuals," in "Almost Doing Nothing," which opened Sept. 1 at Finale Art File. The exhibit shows how Ilarde engages a specific space using conceptual strategies, through a marquee of a gallery once found in Katipunan, Quezon City, a non-traditional video work, and a surrealistic tableau of suspended easels juxtaposed with mirrors.

The exhibit runs until Sept. 28. Finale Art File is located at Warehouse 17, La Fuerza Compound (Gate 1), 2241 Chino Roces Ave., Makati. For more details, check the Finale Art File Facebook page or its website.
