Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 24) - Former Ilocos Norte Rep. Roquito "Roque" Ablan Jr. died Monday.

He was 85.

"My dad passed away peacefully this morning. Lucky to be at his bedside when he died," his son, Communications Assistant Secretary Kris Ablan said in a Facebook post.

"I choose to remember the old man during happier days. This photo was taken last October 2017 during my birthday. My dad lived a full 85 years," he wrote.

The cause of Ablan's death and details of his wake have yet to be disclosed.

Ablan was an eight-term lawmaker who represented the 1st district of Ilocos Norte. He served his last term during the 14th Congress, from 2007 to 2010.

He was known as a longtime political ally of the late President Ferdinand Marcos. In 1998, he ran for governor against Marcos' son, former Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., but lost.
