Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — Thor may have been throwing a tantrum outside but the rains did not stop droves of fans to assemble at this year’s AsiaPOP Comicon (APCC) held in Pasay City.

There was a lot to geek out on at this year’s AsiaPop Comicon — just ask Tom Rodriguez, who came as an attendee and did an art demo live or even CNN Philippines Chief Corresspondent Pia Hontiveros and her family who came in “Star Wars” costumes.

But in case you have the same boss as Aggretsuko’s or you’re still hunting for Thanos in Banaue Rice Terraces over the weekend, let me take you to the Quantum Realms’ time vortex to give you a recap of what happened at arguably the country’s biggest pop culture event.

Jollibee Funko Pop

Everyone went gaga over the release of the Jollibee 40th anniversary Funko Pop figure at the Filbar’s booth on Friday.

Unless you enjoy lining up for two hours to get the pint-sized version of the fast food chain’s beloved mascot, it was an experience that tested the patience of toy collectors. Some of the food exhibitors were spotted selling slices of pizza and drinks to the people waiting to get their hands on the collectible.

Filbar’s resolved the overwhelming demand the next day by limiting purchases to one item per customer.

“There is a limited allocation for the convention this weekend and we would like to be able to serve as many customers as possible,” the country’s longest-running pop culture store posted on its Facebook page.

However, “scalpers” or people who buy toys to sell them at a higher price started offering the item online on Friday, jacking up the price from ₱650 to as high as ₱8,000. Filbar’s opted not to comment on the topic while Jollibee has yet to release a statement.

Outside APCC, the Jollibee Funko Pop vinyl figure is now available in select Jollibee stores, Filbar's, Toys R Us, Toy Kingdom, and Toy Town.

Immersive Netflix booths

Worldwide online streaming giant Netflix wowed APCC attendees again with their immersive booths. Improving from their claustrophobic setup last year, it opened up the area and did away with the long queue of people going in.

Want to be a superhero? Guests can smash a car and a wall using the power of the Iron Fist at New York’s Chinatown. There were also booths where guests could record themselves punching the floor in slow motion, get marked with Iron Fist washable tattoos, and receive a free Luke Cage poster.

A part of Riverdale was also transported to the convention. Archie fans got to take their class pictures while Josie and the Pussycats performed nearby. Across the street was the Hawkins arcade from “Stranger Things” where attendees can play retro games. Attendees who participated in an interactive survey of which Netflix shows they binge on also received Southside Serpent shirts.

Marvel’s “Luke Cage” series star, Mike Colter (Luke Cage), showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, and this season’s villain Mustafa Shakir (Bushmaster) also appeared in a meet and greet session on Day 2.

Hall N

Apart from the exhibits, Netflix proved to be the king at the convention with its Hall N presentation. “Castlevania” executive producer Adi Shankar debuted the Season 2 trailer at APCC before it went online a few minutes after.

“The one thing that bothered me as a fellow nerd, trailers were dropped, new stories were dropped but it will never happen in this part of the world,” Shankar said during the panel. “It will always happen in the U.S. Like alien invasions always happen in New York — why?”

As part of the Netflix Anime panel, “Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle” and “Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters” producer Takashi Yoshizawa said these series are stories about revenge, different from the other iterations of the popular kaiju.

The crowd then went wild when the Marvel Netflix panel kicked off. Colter, Coker and Shakir answered burning questions about the season two of “Luke Cage.”

“One thing that Luke Cage has to find out is — like what Mike Tyson said — ‘Everyone’s got a plan until they get punched,” Coker said, referring to the entry of the villain Bushmaster who presents a physical threat to Luke Cage.

Finn Jones, who stars as Danny Rand on “Marvel’s Iron Fist,” later joined the panel with showrunner Raven Metzner (“Sleepy Hollow,” “Falling Skies”) to tease season two.

Metzner revealed that prior to meeting Jones and landing the job as showrunner, his son beat Jones in an arcade game at San Diego Comic-Con. Jones, on the other hand, said he saw Metzner standing near a big Iron Fist poster before they even formally met.

Sacha Dawan, who plays Davos in “Iron Fist,” sent a video greeting to reveal the iconic comicbook masks his character and Jones wore in Season 2. Jessica Henwick, who opted out of this year’s APCC, also sent a message to thank the fans.

Metzner also teased that Alice Eve’s character Typhoid Mary, a supervillain from the “Daredevil” comic books, is one of the reasons people should watch the show.

Netflix then surprised fans with a screening of the first episode of “Iron Fist” Season 2. Finn stayed on the stage so he could also watch the episode for the first time.

Hall M

There were no big surprises at Hall M, much to the disappointment of Marvel fans who lined up for a hall pass days before the presentation, queued again to surrender recording devices, and waited in a separate hall two hours early so they can get a good seat.

Among those shared by Marvel Vice President Stephen Wacker were a clip from an upcoming episode of “Cloak and Dagger,” a portion of the first episode of “Iron Fist” season 2 already shown in full during Hall N, and announcements of upcoming comic book series and events, animated features and video games that are publicly known.

But to be fair, Marvel Studios does not have anything slated for the latter end of the year. The organizers also handed out Marvel Studios 10th Anniversary posters as freebies.

Hall D

The Walt Disney Company launched the first Hall D this year at APCC. Legendary Disney animator Mark Henn (“Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Lion King”) himself played an extended clip from “Ralph Breaks the Internet,” featuring the hilarious interaction between video game racer Vanellope von Schweetz and 14 Disney princesses. He also shared his creative inputs for the hit movies “Big Hero 6” and “Mulan.”

Filipino furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue debuted his “Star Wars”-inspired pieces made from raw materials found in Cebu.

Disney also presented its streaming app, Disney Life and its slate of new shows and T.V. movies such as “Star Wars: Resistance,” “Freaky Friday,” “Big City Greens,” “101 Dalmatian Street” and “Descendants 3.”

Tye Sheridan on the Disney-Fox merger

With all the screaming, people had to cover their ears when actor Tye Sheridan of “Ready Player One” and “X-Men” fame hit the stage or sat with the audience.

One fan could not even finish her sentence because she was hyperventilating when the Cyclops actor chose to answer her question.

But during the media session, he talked about the elephant in the room — the looming merger deal between Disney and Fox, which currently owns the film rights of the “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four.”

“I don’t think it will affect ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ because the creative rights are still under Fox right now. The merger takes a bit of time,” Sheridan said.

Asked if he would like to see the X-Men crossover with The Avengers, he said, “We’ll see. You guys would like that.”
