Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — In his latest song, “Ambition,” indie rapper and songwriter, Curtismith, shares his journey and struggles in following his passion.

Mito Fabie, more famous for his music moniker Curtismith, has been steadily gaining attention in music festivals, underground clubs and small events, collaborating as well with local music artists like CRWN. In passing conversations, he shares that he would listen to all kinds of rappers and write about his life in the form of lyrics — a pastime that steadily grew into a passion.

This penchant for words have also piqued his interest to become a spoken word poet, and has tackled love in its many forms from a flourishing new relationship to the turmoil of heartache. He has also tackled in “Ambition” how he conquers the doubts and anxiety he feels in pursuing his ambition as a rapper.

The years of gaining credibility as a musician and mass familiarity amongst the Filipino people have pushed Curtismith to go even further with his work. He is becoming a prolific artist who in 2017 alone have released two solo EPs available on Spotify. Despite the struggles, he pushes forward: I learned to follow my own dreams even when I’m tired, he raps in “Ambition.”

This genuine desire to create something bigger than himself may be what got him the role as San Miguel Pale Pilsen’s ambassador for this year. “Sarap ng Orig. Sarap ng totoo” has been the brand’s catchphrase and this rings true for what Curtismith has stood for as an artist. Since the release of his TV material for San Miguel Pale Pilsen, fans have been asking for the full version of the song, leading to the full production of “Ambition.”

Curtismith’s earnest lyrics that pull from his own experiences are what makes his music and him relatable to the youth who listen to him. “Ang galing at husay nagmumula sa tunay, sundin ang puso mo dun ka sa totoo”, the hook of “Ambition” urges one to strive for their goals while using his or her own reality and personal life story to pave their way.

But the essence of the song is that every success comes essentially from putting in the hard work. Laying down the pages for his music and going out of his comfort zone— that’s how Curtismith feeds his ambition. And that’s how he urges others to go for their own ambitions: Fighting to tell you that it’s never too late to follow what’s in your heart. Just give it all it takes.”
