Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, attend the album launch of one of the most revered bands in the local indie scene, try local watercolor products for free in a watercolor fair, watch female sound artists in an audiovisual ensemble performance, discover the art of local craftsmen in Bataan, and fly within Asia and Europe with a friend by availing companion fare promos.
Handmade Watercolor Weekend is a watercolor fair that will feature locally produced and handcrafted artist-grade watercolors. There will be a free painting session, as well as pop-up shops by local producers of watercolor, such as Life After Breakfast, Pinta, Sea Mountain Co., Tutubing Karayom, Urban Art Lab, Art Whale, and Craft Carrot. Ang Bandang Shirley, a seven-member band known for their intimate pop music, will be launching their third album called “Favorite” in a release party this weekend, featuring live performances from the band and opening acts from Outerhope and Musical O. The launch party will be held on Saturday, March 25 at 4 p.m. at Blue Bay Walk, Pres. Diosdado P. Macapagal Blvd., Pasay. Entrance is free. Heresy x KPR is an all-woman ensemble audiovisual performance in celebration of International Women’s Month, featuring Teresa Barrozo as composer and conductor, Joee Mejias and Pauline Vicencio-Despi on electro-acoustic instruments and video, Franchesca Casauay on electronics, Angeline de Dios on prepared vocals, and Tusa Montes on amplified kulintang with effects.
The performance will also be preceded by solo performances by Mejias, Vicencio-Despi, and Montes. Presented by Heresy, an art platform for women working with sound and interdisciplinary media, the event will be on Friday, March 24 at 9 p.m. at Green Papaya Art Projects, 41B Teodoro Gener St., Kamuning, Quezon City. Las Casas Art Weekend is a peek into Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, a collection of restored 18th-century houses in Bataan and home to artist residencies and art programs showcasing the works of the local craftsmen of Bagac, Bataan.
The art weekend aims to share and promote contemporary art and Las Casas’ outpost, Bellas Artes Projects, through guided tours, social gatherings, and workshops. There will also be an exhibit featuring works by Stefanos Tsivopoulos (Venice Biennale 2013), and Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan (Singapore Biennale 2008).
