Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, celebrate Aries birthdays at a bar gig, fly in a hot air balloon at a grand festival, learn about sustainability at a community meetup event, try your hand at decoupage at a workshop, sing along to iconic ‘90s grunge songs at a tribute show, and indulge in all things photography at a gadget fair.
This month’s instalment of Attraction! Reaction! features bands that are no strangers to each other, and who have played for the gig production many times before. The gig, called “Drinking Buddies,” also serves as a collective birthday celebration for those who were born as Aries, artist and audience likewise. The bands who will be performing are She's Only Sixteen, Rusty Machines, Ang Bandang Shirley, Ourselves the Elves, Moonwlk, and The Strangeness. “Drinking Buddies” will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 10 p.m. at Route 196 Bar, Katipunan Ave. Ext., Quezon City. Entrance is at ₱250 with a free drink.
The Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival is one of “the biggest hot air balloon festivals in Southeast Asia.” Hot air balloons representing different countries will take to the sky, showing their vivid designs. The festival will also be filled with different activities, such as a kite show, cultural performances, a fireworks display, a food bazaar, and live performances from local artists such as Spongecola, Gloc-9, Parokya ni Edgar, Moonstar 88, Yeng Constantino, and Bamboo. The festival will take place from Thursday to Sunday, April 6 to 9, at Pradera Verde, Prado Siongco, Lubao, Pampanga. MUNI, a platform for cause-driven creative and entrepreneurial projects, will be having another round of community events centered on responsible and sustainable living. The weekend-long event includes meetups and talks about fashion, food, travel, and the environment, featuring speakers and panelists representing various sectors and industries. Art, fashion, and food merchants will also be selling their wares on-site: Nipa Brew Craft Beers, Jertie's Kitchen and Brown Sugar Pastries, The Superfood Grocer Philippines, WVN Home Textiles, PIOPIO, Gifts and Graces Fair Trade Foundation, Inc., and many more. There will also be live performances from the local bands, We Are Imaginary, A Problem Like Maria, Humanfolk, Zsaris Mendioro, Six The Northstar, Coco Nery, Veronica & I, Mellow Submarine and Paola Mauricio.

The crafts store P.S. Crafts with Soul will be hosting a workshop on decoupage, the art of designing a surface using different painting techniques and paper cut-outs. Aside from basic decoupage composition, the workshop will be teaching three painting techniques: sponging, distressing, and graining, where participants will be provided a wooden box to apply decoupage on. The workshop will be held on Saturday, April 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. at The Back Room by Seabiscuit, 3rd floor, 9641 Kamagong St., Makati. The participation fee is at ₱2,500, inclusive of all materials. Local bands pay tribute to the generation-defining grunge band, Nirvana, in “Montage,” a gig series organized by Indie Manila. The bands who will be playing Nirvana covers all night are Mayonnaise, Kate Torralba, Slowjob, The Royal, Wasted Wendy, Carousel Casualties, Narcloudia, and Halik ni Gringo. The tribute night will be held on Friday, April 7 at 10 p.m. at Route 196 Bar, Katipunan Ave. Ext., Quezon City. Entrance is at ₱200 and comes with a free beer.
Henry’s Travel through the Lens is a one-day gadget fair and photography workshop, featuring booths from top photography brands, product demos, free camera cleaning, and other activities. There will also be discounts and promos on selected products. The event will also be showcasing a photo wall with works from Pinoy Photography Camera Club Online.
