For this year's Korean Film Festival, five Korean films, with the theme “Boldness of the Youth," will be shown across the country after this weekend’s screening in Manila.

Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, get to know the culture of South Korea at a film festival, watch a new music video of a local rock band, enjoy a night of spoken word and music, and learn the ways of hoop dancing in a two-day workshop.

Korean Film Festival

Join the Korean Film Festival from Sept. 7 to Sept. 10 at SM Megamall Cinema 6. Five Korean films, with the theme “Boldness of the Youth,” will be shown across the country after this weekend’s screening in Manila. The roster of movies includes “Very Ordinary Couple,” “How to Steal a Dog,” “My Brilliant Life,” “The King of Jokgu,” and “Twenty.”

After Sept. 10, the film festival will be playing at other venues across the country: SM Lanang Premier, SM City Iloilo, SM City Cebu, SM City Clark Pampanga, and SM City Dasmariñas. Tanya Markova Music Video Launch


Rock band Tanya Markova will launch the music video of their latest single “High-end” on Saturday, Sept. 9, 7 p.m., at The 70s Bistro, 46 Anonas, Quirino 2-3, Quezon City. The event will also feature performances by alternative pop band BennyBunnyBand and singer Jana Garcia. Proceeds of the music video launch will go to Marikina Active Youth. Hoop Dancing Workshop


Participate in a two-day beginner class about hoop dancing or ‘hooping’ starting this Sunday, Sept. 10, 2 p.m. at Life Yoga Center. The first workshop will involve learning the basics of on-body hooping and identifying the power points of the body that enables balancing of the hoop. By the end of this class, attendees are expected to be able to hoop around the waist or hips and chest or shoulders. The second session will be on Sept. 24, where participants will learn how to transition from on-body hooping to off-body hooping and vice versa.

Baliktanaw”: Spoken Word and Music


Midnight Collective, a community of artists, is hosting a spoken word event called “Baliktanaw” on Sunday, Sept. 10, 5:30 p.m., at Kantina Sabel, Casa Bocobo Hotel, Bocobo St., Ermita, Manila. The event will explore the notion of “looking back” — hence, “baliktanaw” — through voluntary spoken word performances from the community. For more information, check their Facebook event page.
