Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, listen to “bitter” monologues, learn about slow media, visit a vintage and antique art fair, attend a yearender gig, check out modern and old school electronics, purchase design works and wares by local artists and illustrators, and watch a restored version of one of the most acclaimed films in Philippine cinema.

 

BATCH '81” (Restored Version) by Mike de Leon

The newly restored version of Mike de Leon’s 1982 classic “Batch ‘81” will be screened on Friday, Dec. 1, 7 p.m. at Cine Adarna, UP Film Center. The movie, considered as one of the masterpieces of Philippine cinema, revolves around seven neophytes who are trying to get into a fraternity, but are subjected to a challenging hazing process. Ticket is at ₱150.

The film is presented by the ongoing Active Vista Human Rights festival. Copies of the book “Batch ‘81: The Making of the Mike De Leon Film” will also be available during the screening.

Ampalaya Party

Ampalaya Party! (A Year-End Celebration)

Mark Ghosn, writer of the book “Ampalaya Monologues,” will host a year-end party on Saturday, Dec. 2, 7 p.m. at The Music Hub. There will be monologue performances — presumably about love and bitterness — by Kat Galang, Jerald Napoles, Martin del Rosario, Jade Lopez, Victor Medina, Lovely Abella, Nicki B., Divine, and Alex Medina. The party will also have a musical performance by RJ Agustin.

Slow Media

Remix Manila: 3-day Mindful Media Lab

School of Slow Media (SoSM), a global media school that provides emerging media practitioners “on-the-streets training,” will hold a three-day workshop, from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3, at Pineapple Lab. The workshop will entail participants to film stories that they see in the streets of Manila. SoSM does these kinds of workshops throughout Southeast Asia, as they aim to bring about more effective storytellers in the region through a more empathetic, mindful approach. At the end of the workshop, attendees will learn documentary filmmaking, non-violent creative communication, design thinking practice, creative collaboration, narrative mindfulness, and 21st century leadership skills.

Istorya ng Pasko - Vintage & Antique Fair

An antique fair called Istorya ng Pasko will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and Dec. 3, at Warehouse Eight. The items that will be sold in the fair include cameras, typewriters, stamps, vinyl records, telephones, porcelain, calligraphy, and more. This event is the second installment of the vintage and antique fair hosted by Warehouse Eight (a coworking space) and The Curious Artisan (an e-commerce platform selling calligraphy pen holders). There will also be letterpress demonstrations, typewritten poetry greetings, and a gift wrapping corner, among others.

Red Ninja Year Ender Fest

Red Ninja Productions, a music production house, will gather local acts for their year-end music fest on Saturday, Dec. 2 at B-Side. The artists expected to perform are Ang Bandang Shirley, Assembly Generals, Ben&Ben, Carlos Castano, Cheats, Hale, Keiko Necesario, Lions & Acrobats, Moonstar88, Over October, Peryodiko, Reese Lansangan, Rob & The Hitmen, Runway Crimes, Run Dorothy, Sandwich, There’s Era, The SunManager, The Riot Act, Tom’s Story, Tonight We Sleep, and IV of Spades.

hifi show

November Hi-Fi Show 2017

The November Hi-Fi show is an event that displays modern and vintage audio and video electronics from local and international brands. This year, the exhibit will fill 50 rooms of audiovisual shows and products on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 at the Dusit Thani Hotel. What started as a vinyl record swap by a local web community in 2004 turned into this annual show that is attended by more more than 3,000 music and video enthusiasts.

Bagsakan

Local Loca, a collective that provides a platform for artists and independent labels to sell their products, will have another pop-up fair called “Bagsakan” on Saturday, Dec. 2, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cubao Expo. The fair will include products from Studio Soup, Jesbakes, Artwhale, Megumoo, Zomkashwak, Denver Garza, Paco, Electromilk, Hulyen, Pancho Karambola, and HeyMady, among others.
