Cynthia Alexander: “Even Such Is Time” Album Release

Indie folk musician Cynthia Alexander makes a return to the Philippines with the launch of her new album, “Even Such Is Time,” on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Music Museum.

Cynthia Alexander is a mainstay in the local indie music scene, having released three critically acclaimed and award-winning albums throughout her career. Her new album, “Even Such Is Time,” was partially funded through the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. The gig will also feature rising folk-pop ensemble Ben&Ben, who have been making waves in the local indie scene since last year.

Tickets are available at all Ticketworld outlets or through the organizers, OPM - Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit, and SOS Movement, and through the Music Museum Group.

January 12 Exhibits

Four new exhibits will open at the Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery on Friday, Jan. 12 — Timo Roter and Manuel Ocampo’s “Vigil,” a two man show with Darrel Ballesteros and Nemo Aquila called “Middle Ground,” a solo show by Eric Go called “I Will Remember This Forever,” and a curated group show called “BW,” featuring artists Gab Baez, Nice Buenaventura, Mars Bugaoan, Jacob Lindo, Isha Naguiat, and Miles Villanueva.

Re/Play Dance Edit

In 2011, renowned Japanese theatre maker Junnosuke Tada created “RE/PLAY,” an exploration of “the intent and meaning of re-production through bodily repetition of physical movement.” The production featured leading Asian and Japanese contemporary choreographer-dancers in a controversial show wherein dancers would perform until they collapse in exhaustion.

On Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 13 -14, MNLLikha x Sipat Lawin Ensemble, in collaboration with Offsite Dance Project (Japan), will be presenting “RE/PLAY Dance Edit,” a version of RE/PLAY featuring dancers from Japan, Cambodia, and the Philippines, made specifically for Manila audiences.

 “Sana Dati” (Gala screening with Jerrold Tarog)

Before the box office hit “Heneral Luna,” Jerrold Tarog directed a number of critically acclaimed and award-winning independent films. Cinema Centenario will be hosting a gala screening of “Sana Dati,” Tarog’s entry to Cinemalaya 2013, which garnered the Best Film award, among others. Tarog will be present at the screening for a Q&A.

Book Talakayan: Sangkatauhan Sangkahayupan

On Saturday, Jan 13., from 1 to 4 p.m., Pinoy Reads Pinoy Books and the Ateneo University Press are hosting a book discussion with filmmaker and author Alvin Yapan on his new book “Sangkatauhan Sangkahayupan (Mga Kuwento).

The discussion will be held at the 2nd floor of Areté, the Ateneo de Manila University’s new creative hub.

BAP Children's Workshop: Comic Storytelling by Manix Abrera

This weekend, consider treating your younger siblings to a comic storytelling workshop facilitated by “Kikomachine” creator Manix Abrera. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bellas Artes Projects. It is open and free to kids ages 7-12 years old.

Ampersand 2018 Folio Launch

Ampersand is a group of young Filipino writers and artists who want to showcase their talents and voices. On Saturday, Jan. 13, from 7 a.m to 1 p.m., the group is launching their latest folio at  _Gallery, ASPACE Philippines. Attendees can expect to enjoy a night of art, music, and poetry with an art bazaar, open mic, and special performances from artists like Coeli, Sofia Paredes, Happy Accident, among others.
