If you’re looking for a new book to bury your nose into, Fully Booked BGC is hosting the official book launch of Emiliana Kampilan’s “Dead Balagatas Tomo I: Mga Sayaw ng Dagat at Lupa and Dean Francis Alfar and Sage Alfar’s “Stars in Jars” on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at The Studio.

Kampilan’s “Mga Sayaw ng Dagat at Lupa,” which has been hailed as one of 2017’s best books, is all at once about the geographic evolution of the Philippines and stories of queer love, while “Stars in Jars” is a collection of speculative fiction stories written for young adult audiences.

Damitan Mo Si Maria

For their graduation show, the UP BS Clothing Technology Class of 2018 is presenting “Damitan Mo Si Maria: A Graduation Fashion Show” on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the GT Toyota Asian Center Auditorium.

The UP Clothing Technology program has produced numerous fashion game-changers and mavens, such as Jojie Lloren, Veluz Puno-Reyes, Jason Pugat, and Philippine Textile Research Institute Director Cecilia Elumba, among others. The show is in part a celebration of the UP Clothing Technology’s 42nd year, and attempts to challenge gender and social norms and standards through their graduating designers’ own interpretations of “Maria.”

How to Write Children's Stories

Aspiring writers can spend a Saturday honing their skills at the Storywriting School’s How to Write Children’s Stories workshop, a six-hour crash course on storytelling for younger audiences. The workshop will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Love Monday Cafe, Kapitolyo.

The workshop will touch on story design principles, finding the right language for kids, and writing efficiently, among other topics. Published children’s book author and eight-time Palanca Award winner Dr. Joem Antonio will be teaching the class.

Shirebound and Busking, Iego Tan’s independent music project, is described as “notorious for songs about love, katorpehan, and John Lloyd Cruz.” With a debut album in the horizon, Shirebound and Busking is launching its first single, “A Million Little Things,” this weekend.

Catch the new single along with a full band performance by the artist, as well as musical guests BP Valenzuela, BLKD, Tom’s Story, Munimuni, and Ian Penn on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. at Route 196.

Elmer Borlongan: An Extraordinary Eye for the Ordinary

Elmer Borlongan is a fixture in the contemporary art scene for his distinct work in figurative expressionism. On Saturday, the Metropolitan Museum of Manila is hosting a retrospective of the artist's work spanning 20 years, which capture images and scenes from his childhood in Mandaluyong to the bukid of Zambales, where he would spend his later years. The exhibit is curated by historian Ambeth Ocampo.

Gay social app Blued is closing the first season of its web series, “Ur_Tadhana,” with an exclusive pajama party and a screening of the finale. “Ur_Tadhana” is a rom-com series conceptualized by former Pinoy Big Brother contestant Fifth Solomon and directed by Jedd Rommel. The series tackles themes like coming out, self-discovery, and romance.

Expect a marathon of the series’ first season, talks with the show's cast and creators, and a dance party. The event is by invitation only, but host TEAM Mag is giving away passes on its page.

Catch The Ransom Collective this weekend before they fly out to Singapore for the 2018 St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival. The Ransom Collective is the second Filipino act to play in the festival, following Cheats’ performance in 2016.
