Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, catch performances by local indie acts, enjoy a zine fair down south, dance the night away surrounded by Spanish colonial architecture, learn how to write love stories, join a women’s talk on reproductive health, and enjoy literary-themed events, complete with drunken poetry readings.


This Saturday, head down south to enjoy a day filled with music, coffee, films, and zines, at Munzinelupa. Expect an art market with local art and zine scene mainstays like Asshulz, Magpies, Komiks Sundays, Electromilk, Josel Nicolas, Haliya Publishing, Czar Kristoff, Loser Mangaka and many more, as well as musical performances by Emilio, Fern., Juniper Face The Corner, baby blue, Isabelle Romualdez, The Giliws, Happy Monday People, The Mind Is A Terrible Thing, Ralph Gonzalez, and Pamcy, plus films and talks by attending artists.

Furiosa Cinco

Kick off the weekend with a gig at Mow’s Bar in Q.C. with Furiosa Cinco. The event, happening this Friday, Jan. 26, starting at 8 p.m., will feature performances by musical acts Ciudad, Kapitan Kulam, Ourselves the Elves, The Rave Tapes, Sound Architects, and The Spirals.

UNKNWN.Intramuros w/ Hunee

Join a dance party in the heart of Intramuros at UNKNWN’s latest gig, happening this Saturday, Jan. 27., from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Baluarte de San Diego Gardens.

UNKNWN is a Manila-based community and music-driven experience that hosts musical performances at hidden urban gems. This Saturday’s event will feature Hunee, one of the most sought-after international DJs today. Playing alongside Hunee are KARLO V and Arbie Won, and UNKNWN resident DJs Samantha Nicole, Emel Rowe, and MIKAIL.

How to Write Love Stories Workshop

For hopeless romantics looking for a creative outlet, Storywriting School is hosting a crash course on writing love stories on Saturday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Love Monday Cafe in Kapitolyo.

The workshop, which will be led by Palanca-awardee Dr. Joem Antonio, will cover questions on writing about falling in love, forgiveness, and relationships. The course is ₱3,500 per head.

This Saturday’s Grrrl Meet is the sixth installment of a series of talks hosted by Grrrl Gang Manila, a group dedicated to creating a safe, non-judgmental space for all women (including trans, non-binary, and genderqueer women) in the Philippines to discuss issues affecting them.

Book Bar At The Warehouse

Enjoy a literary weekend at Book Bar, a gathering of poets, artists and musicians, put together to raise funds to help Kwago build an independent bookstore at Warehouse Eight. The bookstore aims to become a literary respite for for book lovers, and serve as a platform for small press and local publishers.

The two-day event will be comprised of a drunken poetry night on Saturday, Jan. 27, with featured poets Crystal Claire, Franchesca Casauay, Miguel Espiritu, Obie Obias, Peep Warren, Paolo Rodriguez, Sofia Paderes, and Vyxz Vasquez, among others, and musical performances by artists skymarines, Similar Objects, Ian Penn, Mariah Reodica, and Small Town Press / Erick Calilan, on Sunday, Jan. 28.

Aklat Awards 2017
