Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, stroll down the walled city and enjoy a street fair and art market, attend talks by some of the best creatives today, catch a cartoonist’s latest solo exhibit, learn about living architecture, help raise funds for an elementary school, and join an improv workshop with your partner.

Graphika Manila 2018

Find creative inspiration this weekend at Graphika Manila, an annual creativity conference that features talks by influential designers and creatives from the Philippines and around the world. As it celebrates its 13th year this Feb. 3 and 4, Graphika Manila 2018 presents award-winning speakers from creative studios, animation houses, and visual effects companies like Stink Studios, Hungry Castle, Golden Wolf, Luma Pictures, Weta Digital, Midnight Sphera, and Serious Studio, as well as known designers and creatives like Evan Dehaven, Adam J. Kurtz, Alex Trochut, Chris Do, and Abbey Sy.

Living Architecture Exhibition

Spend your Saturday learning about architecture at The Living Architecture Exhibition, a showcase of various projects of “living architecture,” with the aim of raising awareness on the relationship between architecture, nature, and social and cultural life. The exhibition also features outdoor exhibits by Filipino artists Junyee and Indy Paredes.

The exhibition opens at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, but you can attend workshops and study tours by renowned engineers and architects like Patrick Bellew, lead designer of the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore, at 3 p.m.

The exhibition will be held at 1F Galleries, Jorge B. Vargas Museum and Filipiniana Research Center, Roxas Ave., University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. For more information, visit the Facebook event page.

Manila Biennale: Viva Manila Pasyal Market and Fair

On Feb. 3 and 4, stroll down Fort Santiago and experience the Viva Manila Weekend Pasyal, a street fair and art market featuring local businesses and performers.

The Viva Manila Weekend Pasyal is one of the many events mounted for the Manila Biennale, a month-long art festival set in Intramuros, featuring exhibitions, lectures, and performances by local and international artists. The festival’s theme, “Open City,” was chosen to honor its location’s history during World War II.

The Manila Biennale will be ongoing from Feb. 3 to March 5. As the festival opens officially on Feb. 3, all shows and exhibits will be free of charge on that day.

“Mandirigma ng Kalawakan”

For Manix Abrera’s fourth solo show, “Mandirigma ng Kalawakan,” the cartoonist, who has received cult status for his “Kikomachine!” comic strip and “Silent Comics” series, will present works that which explore the idea of the “unexpected path,” presented in a comic-like narration without speech bubbles.

Head to the Galerie Stephanie on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m., for the opening, where copies of “Kikomachine! Komix” will be available for purchase. Original art by Abrera will be raffled off at the reception as well.

Human Toy Machines: A Fundraising Gig

Give back this weekend at BuwanBuwan Collective’s Human Toy Machines. The group is raising funds to provide science-oriented toys and reading materials for the students of San Diego Elementary School in Batasan, Quezon City, by mounting a gig this Saturday, Feb. 3, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Dulo MNL. Expect performances by Teenage Granny, Similarobjects, Jason Dhakal, Chinese Plastic Toys, Pamcy, Lustbass, and Tito, and a pay-to-play video game booth at the event.  

Though the gig is on Feb. 3, anyone interested in donating toys and reading materials can find donation boxes and jars at Dulo MNL starting Jan. 29.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, take this Sunday to learn new ways to connect and communicate with your partner through improvisational theatre. Hosted by improv school Third World Improv, the workshop will consist of spontaneous, collaborative, and in-the-moment exercises designed for couples.
