Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, enjoy a history convention, score locally-made artisanal finds, go bargain book hunting, attend talks by your favorite authors, party with a local band and a Cubao bar as they celebrate their anniversaries, catch indie films, and watch a play on a tattoo legend.
The country’s premier crafts, fashion, and accessories fair is back. The Museum Foundation of the Philippines’ MaArte Fair is happening this weekend at the Peninsula Manila, where attendees can expect artisanal and locally-made products up for grabs, as well as talks on environmental enterprise, art as an investment, and ancient gold.
There will also be an array of goods made for men this year. Admission is free.

History Con 2018
Enjoy an entire weekend full of history and entertainment at History Con 2018. The convention, which will be held at the World Trade Center, will be bringing the hit T.V. channel to Filipino fans once again, with guests like Giorgio A. Tsoukalos of the show “Ancient Aliens” in attendance.

The most anticipated Filipino independent film festival turns 14 this year with 10 all new feature films from both established and upcoming directors and 20 short films from filmmakers throughout the country.
Aside from the films in competition, the festival also has a massive lineup of documentaries, Asian films, films from other Filipino film festivals, tributes (Maryo J Delos Reyes and Bernardo Bernardo), as well as restored Filipino classics.
You can watch this year’s films in five venues: The CCP, Greenbelt 1, Glorietta 4, UP Town Cinema 3, Trinoma Cinema 3, and Ayala Legazpi Cinema 4.
Cinemalaya runs until Aug. 12. Tickets are available at the CPP Box Office, Ticketworld or Sureseats.
“Ang Huling Mambabatok”
This weekend, fans of Apo Whang-Od, the legendary tattoo artist who has continued to preserve the art of the mambabatok, can enjoy the first ever musical play inspired by her life. The play entitled “Ang Huling Mambabatok” is written by Em Mendez and directed by Raffy Tejada, and seeks to be a “showcase of the art, culture, and traditions of Kalinga.”
Audiences can catch the show at 4:30 and 8:00 p.m. on Aug. 10 and 11.
