Newly-crowned Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach made good on a promise she made right after the Pacquiao-Mayweather superfight.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — After claiming the victory in the 64th Miss Universe pageant, newly-crowned Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has made good on a promise she made months ago.

When the Philippines was still reeling from the loss of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao at the hands of Floyd Mayweather in their super fight, Wurtzbach made a promise on May 3 to her fellow Filipinos.

Wurtzbach made it to the Top 3 of the prestigious beauty pageant alongside the bets of Colombia and the United States.

Host Steve Harvey whittled the pack down to two, with Colombia and the Philippines left in the running for the crown before committing a mistake that would live long in the memory of fans of the competition.

Harvey erroneously declared Colombia’s Ariadna Gutiérrez as the winner, but the host quickly corrected his mistake during what was supposed to be the inaugural walk of Gutiérrez.
