Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Philippines' bet Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was crowned Miss Universe 2015 on December 20 PST (December 21, Monday, PHT) in Las Vegas, USA.

The host corrected his announcement after calling and crowning Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as winner of the 64th Miss Universe pageant and Philippines as first runner up.

26-year-old Wurtzbach bested 79 other contestants for the much-coveted beauty pageant title.

Early fan favorite Wurtzbach also garnered the top global fan vote.

For the Top 5's question and answer portion, she was asked whether she thinks the U.S. should have military presence in the Philippines.

"I think the U.S. and Philippines have always had a good relationship with each other. We were colonized by the Americans and we have their culture in our traditions even up to this day. And I think we are very welcoming with the Americans and I don't see any problem with that at all," she answered.

Wurtzbach's answer to the final question as to why she should be the next Miss Universe, "I will use my voice to influence youth and I would raise awareness to certain causes like HIV awareness that is timely and relevant to my country."

She added, "I want to show the world — the universe rather — that I am confidently beautiful with a heart."
