The inspiration behind Pia Wurtzbach's Miss Universe gown

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — They say nobody knows the needs of a Filipino beauty queen better than a Filipino designer.

Filipino designer Albert Andrada designed Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's national costume and evening gown with a singular concept — meant to showcase the Pearl of the Orient or the capital of the Philippines, Manila.

For her national costume, Wurtzbach was dressed by Andrada in a beige gown adorned with capiz shells and pearls.

For her evening gown, Andarada selected the color royal blue to exude a majestic and grand air and to represent the Philippine seas.

The beaded detail in the back represented the rays of the sun. The draping, meanwhile, showcased the diversity of marine life in the Philippines.

Andrada revealed that his team worked on the dress for less than a week. He also said he was the first person offered to design the dress.

Andrada also gave his forecast for the fashion that will be prevalent in 2016.
