Judges test Miss PH Earth beauties' level of environmental awareness

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 9) — Candidates of the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 had to prove they are more than just looks in the last round of pre-judging competitions.

In getting to know the 40 beauties vying for the title, judges asked what they are doing personally to help take care of the planet.

 

They tested the extent of  their knowledge on environmental issues and policies in the pre-judging at the Diamond Hotel Saturday.

The Miss Philippines Earth competition, compared to other beauty pageants in the country, gives the highest percentage to intelligence, taking up 30 percent of the total score.

The criteria for judging are as follows:

  • 30% intelligence
  • 35% beauty
  • 20% form & figure
  • 10% poise
  •   5% attitude

The roster of judges includes Miss Philippines Earth 2006 Catherine Untalan-Vital, Environment Department Asec. Rommel Abesamis, and Foreign Affairs Department Director Raymund Toledo.

In previous Miss Philippines Earth pageants, judges selected 12 finalists from the candidates vying for the title..

"They're getting better every year, girls are getting more aware of situation, getting good girls who are so passionate, they're not just here to be a beauty queen," said Lorraine Schuck, Miss Philippines Earth organizer.

The coronation for the Miss Philippines Earth 2017 is on Saturday, July 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
