Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 3) — Motorists take note: road repairs on EDSA will happen on all weekends until November this year.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) made the announcement Tuesday.

In a press conference, Jojo Garcia, Acting MMDA General Manager, said, “At 11 p.m. on Friday, one section on the southbound lane of Edsa from Eugenio Lopez Drive to Scout Boromeo in Quezon City will be closed to traffic. The affected lane would be passable on Monday 5 a.m.”

The MMDA official said road repairs will continue on more portions of EDSA up to Pinatubo area in Quezon City in the succeeding weekends until November 2-4.

The massive road repair, according to Garcia, is part of DPWH’s road maintenance project intended to improve EDSA’s badly-damaged pavements. It will cover about 1.6 kilometers.

Garcia said the road damage could get worse if repairs are not made.

He also gave his assurance that contractors working for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have been instructed on the proper procedures on how to minimize traffic congestion along the country's busiest thoroughfare.
