Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 8) — Shopping malls located along major thoroughfares will open later starting November 5,  the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Monday.

MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia held a consultative meeting with representatives from SM Supermalls, Ayala Malls and Robinsons on Monday to discuss how to alleviate the traffic that is anticipated during the holidays.

They agreed that from November 5 to January 14, 2019, shopping malls on major roads will open at 11 a.m. on weekdays, instead of the usual 10 a.m. opening.

Weekday sales will also be prohibited to reduce traffic during Mondays to Fridays.

Deliveries of non-perishable goods will be limited from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Shopping mall operators will also deploy additional security personnel to facilitate long lines of vehicles going inside mall parking areas that cause traffic gridlock.

A moratorium was also issued on road works to lessen the impact of infrastructure projects on traffic congestion during the holidays.
