After several surveys, Sen. Grace Poe has finally overtaken Vice President Jejomar Binay as the top choice for the presidential race in 2016.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) – For the first time, Sen. Grace Poe has overtaken Vice President Jejomar Binay in a pre-election survey conducted nationwide by Pulse Asia from May 30 to June 5.

According to the survey, if the 2016 presidential elections were to be held today, 30% would vote for Poe while only 22% would vote for Binay.

Asked for his reaction, Binay said this survey was a wake-up call for him.

He admitted that the corruption allegations against him had affected his standing.

Still, he said that, come election day, he could rely on the 31% core group of supporters that he has in the rural areas.

He said he was not losing hope.

He recalled that in 2010, during the vice presidential election, the initial surveys showed that he was lagging behind Mar Roxas at 52% against his 2%.

And yet, he said, he won the race.

In the past few months, Binay has been going around the country.

For his latest trip, Binay went around Rizal province on Thursday, June 18.

He denied that he had started campaigning. He said he was merely reiterating his desire to turn for the presidency while also making it clear to the people that allegations of corruption against him were not true.

He believes his tours and dialogues with the public will deliver positive results.

Shortly before noon, Poe emailed her reaction to the poll results, as follows:

At around the same time, Binay emailed his own reaction, as follows:
