42 injured in stray bullet incidents – PNP

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) – The Philippine National Police (PNP) recorded 42 stray bullet injuries from December 16 to Tuesday morning (January 5).

According to the report released by the PNP, 13 other stray bullet incidents were reported but no one was injured. 

Of the total 55 stray bullet incidents, 41 were reported at the peak of New Year’s celebration, from December 31 to January 1. Some 28 people were injured in these cases, including an eight-year-old girl from Iloilo City who sustained injury on her right thigh. 

The PNP disclosed that one of its police officers was among the 10 people arrested due to illegal discharge of firearms.

The youngest victim was three-year old Calsum Henio. She was hit by a stray bullet on her right upper abdomen in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte on December 16.

The PNP has received no report of death due to stray bullet to date.

P1.33M of firecrackers confiscated

Aside from stray bullet incidents, the PNP National Operations Center also monitored illegal possession, use, and sale of firecrackers, and firecracker-related injuries.

The PNP arrested 23 people for the illegal possession, use, and sale of firecrackers, and confiscated firecrackers amounting to P1.33 million.

Based on PNP data, one person died, while 271 people were injured due to firecrackers.
