Who is Mar Roxas?

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Liberal Party standard bearer Manuel "Mar" Roxas II has a long track record in government service.

But this did not translate to favorable scores in the presidential pre-election surveys.

He was once known as "Mr. Palengke," and this monicker made him hook the top spot in 2004 senatorial elections.

Roxas is pushing for the passage of urgent measures, such as the Freedom of Information Bill and the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill.

Roxas is pushing for the passage of urgent measures-- among them, the Freedom of Information Bill.

"I fully support the FOI legislation. Kung hindi man yan pumasa ngayon, isasalang ulit at itutulak sa susunod na administrasyon. Dagdag pa dyan is yung bills ng anti-dynasty."

Platform of government: Three freedoms

For administration bet Manuel "Mar" Roxas II, the priority is to continue the "Daang Matuwid."

Akbayan party-list Rep. Barry Guiterrez, spokesman of the Daang Matuwid Coalition, told CNN Philippines that it is the principle that underlies Roxas' entire platform.

"First is the freedom of hunger, and that is essentially concerned with job generation particularly in the agriculture sector. He talks about foreign investments in manufacturing and bigger government investments in infrastructure for the agricultural sector," he said.

"[There is the] freedom from fear — talking about safety nets on health issues and peace and order, improve policing. And the freedom to dream which goes towards in improving the capacity of individual citizens and families to actually aspire for their dreams, such as expanding the K-12 and CCT [conditional cash transfer] programs."
