Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Office of the Ombudsman is investigating Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald Dela Rosa over his recent all-expense paid trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, courtesy of Sen. Manny Pacquiao.

Dela Rosa watched Pacquiao's winning fight against American boxer Jessie Vargas at the Thomas & Mack Center on November 6. He admitted in interviews the boxing champ and senator paid for all his travel expenses.

"The Ombudsman is conducting a fact-finding investigation regarding the alleged travel perks received by the PNP chief when he went to Las Vegas," Atty. Mary Rawnsle Lopez, acting director of the agency's Public Information and Media Relations Bureau, confirmed to CNN Philippines.

Dela Rosa welcomed the investigation.

"Tignan natin, okay lang ako (Let's see, it's okay with me)," Dela Rosa said in a chance interview with reporters upon arriving in Davao City from an official trip to Thailand and Malaysia with President Rodrigo Duterte.

"Basta ang importante dili 'to kurakot na kwarta (What's important is the money didn't come from corruption)," he added.

What could be Dela Rosa's violations?

Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees prohibits public officials and employees from accepting "any gift, gratuity, favor, entertainment, loan or anything of monetary value from any person in the course of their official duties or in connection with any operation being regulated by, or any transaction which may be affected by, the functions of their office."

Pacquiao is a member of the Senate committee on justice and human rights and the committee on public order, which are both leading recent investigations into police killings relating to the country's war on drugs.

Pacquiao on Thursday grilled PNP officials over the killing of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa, saying their version of the story was hard to believe. Dela Rosa skipped the Senate hearing for Duterte's Malaysia visit.
