Maynilad: Water supply cut in Quezon City from Dec. 5 to 7

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Some 300,000 customers in Quezon City may lose their water supply next week in light of major pipeline maintenance by water supplier Maynilad.

In a Thursday press conference, the company said it will need 43 hours to replace a valve in its four-foot-wide primary pipeline in Tandang Sora Avenue.

The work will be done from Dec. 5 (Monday) at 8 p.m. to Dec. 7 (Wednesday) at 4 p.m and will affect the following areas:

  • Apolonio Samson
  • Baesa
  • Bahay Toro
  • Bungad
  • Damayan
  • Del Monte
  • Katipunan
  • Mariblo
  • Paltok
  • Paraiso
  • San Antonio
  • Sangandaan
  • Talipapa
  • Tandang Sora
  • Veterans Village

Aside from water service interruption, the repair will also cause traffic congestion in Brgy. Talipapa. Maynilad released a map of diversion routes to lessen congestion in the area.

Maynilad Supply Operations Division Vice President Engr. Ronaldo Padua said the 36-year-old valve, which controls the water flow and pressure in the pipeline, is not functioning properly anymore.

Maynilad will be putting a line stopper to block the flow of water, so they can install a new valve through the pipe. The company said it is better to do the repairs now than to cause more hassle in the future.

"Kapag po nag-leak 'yon, wala po kaming pagsasarhan ng gate valve para ma-repair yung leak na 'yon [If that leaks, we won't have a gate valve to close to repair the leak]," Padua said.

Padua also said consumers should not worry if the water's color becomes a little yellowish when the supply resumes.

"Just in case lang po sa unang bugso ng inyong mga gripo ay merong pa rin pong konting kulay yung mga tubig, i-flush lang po, magiging clear din po 'yan [Just in case the water is still dirty when you open the faucet, just let it flush out and it will become clear]," he said.

Maynilad also advised every household to stock up at least three cubic meters or 15 drums of water. The company also said it has prepared 14 water tankers in areas affected by the water interruption.

Customers may call Maynilad's hotline at 1626 or text at ‎0998-8641446 to schedule or request for water delivery.
