Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Patricia Licuanan said Tuesday that she would like to meet President Rodrigo Duterte soon.

Licuanan's request comes after Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a Tuesday press briefing that Duterte had ordered her not to attend Cabinet meetings because she was among those that Duterte had asked to resign.

"CHED Chair Licuanan will not comment on the desist order issue any further until such time she has spoken with the President," the Office of the CHED Chairperson said.

Licuanan said in a Monday statement that Cabinet Secretary Jun Evasco texted her, saying that the President has barred her from attending Cabinet meetings. She also said she would comply with the order and that she would continue her duties as CHED chair.

The President also issued a memorandum circular in August requesting all presidential appointees of the Aquino administration to resign. However, the presidential circular exempts Cabinet officials.

Licuanan holds Cabinet rank and has a fixed term until 2018.
