Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The magnitude-6.0 quake that hit Wao, Lanao Del Sur Wednesday morning has left several structures in the municipality damaged.

Lanao del Sur Local Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Officer Francis Garcia told CNN Philippines the quake, which struck at 5:21 a.m., has left at least 30 houses, two mosques, a national high school, and the national highway with partial damages according to initial assessments.

As of 11:30 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has plotted at least 10 aftershocks following the quake.

As of Wednedsay morning, no casualties have been reported.

The initial 6.0-magnitude earthquake registered the following intensities:

  • Intensity VII- Wao, Lanao del Sur; Kalilangan, Bukidnon
  • Intensity IV- Cagayan de Oro City; Cotabato City; Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Matalam, North Cotabato; Davao City
  • Intensity III- Kabacan, North Cotabato; Maramag, Quezon, Don Carlos, Bukidnon; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat
  • Intensity II- Kidapawan City; Koronadal City

Damaged houses, national highway

Wao’s electricity supply has been cut following the quake. Garcia said there is also a water interruption, possibly from minor damage to a pipeline.

In an interview with CNN Philippines, Garcia said initial assessments show the earthquake has left almost 30 houses damaged, some of which have collapsed walls.

It also left two mosques with cracked walls, and caused a national high school’s  roof to collapse.

The national highway also has a 2.5-meter long crack measuring almost four inches wide and one foot deep.

Patients at Wao’s local hospital have evacuated to the field, as aftershocks continue.

Garcia said residents have also evacuated their houses as many homes in Wao are not at par with construction standards and are easily jolted by quakes.

Authorities assess damage

Wao is home to nearly 45,000 residents. Garcia says the local disaster management office is still coordinating with officials and will hold a meeting with its 26 barangay captains to assess the extent of the damage.

Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Adiong, meanwhile said according to initial assessments, the rest of Lanao del Sur has not been affected by the quake.

Ang affected lang dito sa Lanao del Sur ay yung Municipality of Wao. Sila lang yung may report na ganun,” he said.
