President Rodrigo Duterte waves upon his arrival in Beijing on Saturday.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 14) — President Rodrigo Duterte said Saturday that the ₱3 million increase of his wealth since assuming the presidency came from the donations he received during the 2016 elections.

In a press conference after his meeting with the Filipino community in Hong Kong, Duterte said that he wanted to return the money to the donors. Unfortunately, they could no longer trace the source of this extra money thus his decision to instead declare it in his latest Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).

Based on Duterte's SALN as of the end of 2016, he has a total net worth of ₱27,428,862.44 as of December 31, 2016. The President's declared value before he assumed the presidency was ₱24,080,094.04 as of June 30, 2016.

Duterte was playing with the media when he said that his increased wealth came from his "sugar mommy" he named only as Vanessa.

"Regarding the issue of an additional three million sa SAL(N). Alam mo kasi nagkaroon ako ng girlfriend, parang sugar mommy ko. And binibigyan niya ako ng pera. Vanessa ang first name."

He said Vanessa is a rich 35-year old businesswoman who spends a lot on him. Pressed further, Duterte said he and Vanessa started their affair after he won last year's election.

Duterte admitted that his partner Honeylet Avanceña knew about the affair.
