Duterte tells troops to 'crush' terrorists

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Fight fire with fire.

President Rodrigo Duterte repeated his marching orders on Tuesday to government forces fighting the ISIS-backed Maute terror group in Marawi City. He'd want them to take no prisoners.

Speaking before troops in Cotabato City, Duterte said he's fighting a rebellion, a war — and he intended to emerge victorious.

"I am ordering you to crush (them)... When I say 'crush' them, you have to destroy everything, including lives," he said.

The President said the terrorists would get what's coming to them — since they came to kill and destroy.

"(So) I will destroy also and kill. Period," Duterte said.

Duterte added he'd want an end to the crisis sooner than later, but added he was willing to go the distance. "If it would take me 10 years to do it, I will do it, if I'm still around."

The commander-in-chief repeated his full support for his troops, telling them to be not afraid to do their job. He said whatever would happen — right or wrong — he would assume full responsibility for it.
