Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 17) — Quezon City announced on July 17 that classes will be suspended when President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 24.

The suspension covers all levels in both private and public schools in the city, the Quezon City local government posted Monday.

De La Salle University

Meanwhile, De La Salle University announced on July 23 that classes at all levels and work at its Taft, Makati and Bonifacio Global City campuses will likewise be suspended.

"(This is) in light of the expected mass demonstrations on the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and the planned rally of transportation groups," the university said in a statement. "Access to these campuses is restricted."

University of the East

The University of the East (UE) also announced on July 23 that classes from Kinder to Senior High School at two of its campuses are suspended.

"Kindergarten to Grade 12 classes in UE Manila and UE Caloocan for Monday, July 24, 2017, have been suspended by Executive Vice President and Officer in Charge Carmelita G. Mateo, in light of tomorrow's SONA and word of a possible transport strike," the university said.

The speech at Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City will be Duterte's second SONA, where he is expected to discuss the progress of his policies and plans.
