Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 27) - Philippines' Rachel Peters on Monday failed to get a spot in the Miss Universe 2017 Top 5.

From the Top 10, Peters, whom beauty pageant experts saw as a strong contender, didn't make it to the Top 5 of the 66th Miss Universe.

The Top 5 contestants are:

  1. South Africa's Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters
  2. Venezuela's Keysi Sayago
  3. Thailand's Maria Poontertlarp
  4. Jamaica's Davina Bennett
  5. Colombia's Laura Gonzalez

Earlier, Peters, during her backstage interview with model Ashley Graham said she is overwhelmed to be a part of the Top 16, as a wild card candidate.

A day before the pageant, Peters said no matter what happens in the pageant, the experiences she had and the friends she made throughout her journey already made her "feel like a winner."

The Filipino-British model initially did not plan to join the pageant, but the encouragement of friends and family boosted her resolve.

"I've had a lot of people sending me messages, rooting for me, saying give it a shot. And for the longest time I kept trying to deny that I was a beauty queen but then eventually I came to my senses and realized if so many people believe in me, then there must be something there," she told CNN Philippines in May.

Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere turned over her crown to her successor, South Africa's Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.
