Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 6) — The queens of the universe are in Manila.

Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters and Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport early Wednesday morning.

Some Miss Universe 2017 candidates are in the country as well after being invited by the country's Tourism Department.

Miss Canada Lauren Howe, Miss Great Britain Anna Burdzy, Miss China Qiang Qiu, Miss Russia Ksnia Alexandrova, Miss Italy Maria Polverino, Miss Spain Sofia del Prado, Miss Netherlands Nicky Opheij, Miss Malaysia Samantha James, and Miss Singapore Manuela Bruntraeger arrived earlier on Tuesday, as they prepare to tour the wonders of the country.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo, who led the welcoming party at the airport, earlier said the candidates' visit to the Philippines is the department's strategy to promote the country's tourism.

In four days, the beauty queens will visit various tourist sites nationwide, including Batanes, Vigan, Bohol, and Camiguin.

They are also set to attend the Tourism department's "Women of Significance" gala night and headline a fashion show in Pasay City on Saturday.
