Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 9) — Martin Diño, a strong supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte, was appointed Interior Undersecretary.

Duterte signed his appointment paper Monday and was released to the media on Tuesday.

He is the newest appointee to the department after Interior Undersecretary and former Armed Forces chief Eduardo Año was named officer-in-charge of the agency.

Diño was former chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. He was appointed by the President to the post in September 2016.

He was also a former officer of the anti-crime watchdog Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption.

In the 2016 election, Diño filed a certificate of candidacy for the presidency under PDP-Laban, only to withdraw so that then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte could substitute and run instead.
