Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 23) — Fire authorities said a portable burner is suspected to be the cause of the fire which razed more or less 1.5 hectares of grassland in Mt. Pulag, Benguet.

In a press release Monday, the Bureau of Fire Protection in the Cordillera Administrative Region said the fire started at the Saddle Camp in Mt. Pulag at around 3 p.m. Saturday, and was declared fire out at 9:15 p.m.  on the same day.

The Saddle Camp is one of the campsites near the summit of Mt. Pulag.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, the authorities added.

The nearest fire station in the mountain is Kabayan Fire Station - around 46 kilometers away.

Mt. Pulag National Park announced on its Facebook page hikes and treks are permitted only in Ambangeg Trail.

Meanwhile, Akiki and Tawangan trails, as well as the summit, are still restricted.

Mt. Pulag is the highest peak in Luzon with 2,922 meters above sea level, and the third in the Philippines next to Mt. Apo in Davao and Mt. Dulang Dulang in Bukidnon.
