Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 8) — After two consecutive months of low power rates, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will slightly raise charges this February.

Meralco said the rate hike is caused by higher generation charge--or the cost of producing electricity.

The increase, however, is only 18 centavos higher than charges in November 2017.

The price per kilowatt-hour had a net decrease of 90 centavos in December 2017 and January 2018.

Meralco added the distribution charge, or cost of power distribution to end-users, has not changed since August 2015.
