In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said "Basyang" maintained its strength as it crossed the Sulu Sea, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 60 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal No. 1 was up over Palawan, including Calamian and the Cuyo group of islands.
