President's chief legal counsel Sal Panelo said Brother Eddie Villanueva was satisfied with his talk with President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 11) President Rodrigo Duterte told popular evangelist Brother Eddie Villanueva that he apologized to God after calling the Lord stupid.

"Sorry God. I said 'Sorry God' if that is taken in as a generic term by everybody listening..." Duterte told Villanueva during their meeting meeting in Malacanang Tuesday night.

In a video of the meeting released by the Palace showed, Duterte reminded groups never to use the name of God to hit the administration.

"There is a separation of church and state. Do not use God to attack (the government)," he said. "That's not what God wants."

He also repeated to Villanueva the difference between his concept of God and the Church's.

"I only apologize to God and nobody else," the President explained.

Panelo added Villanueva was elated on the outcome of his dialogue with the President.

The President had earlier said he was merely "shaking the tree" with the comments.

Since then, he has created a four-man panel to hold talks with Church leaders to address the tensions between church and state.
