NCRPO Chief Guillermo Eleazar reprimands Parañaque cop PO1 Edmar Costo for slapping a bus driver Thursday.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 26) — A policeman was relieved from his post after a video of him slapping a bus driver's face went viral on social media Wednesday.

PO1 Edmar Costo of the Parañaque Police Station was caught on video having an argument and slapping a certain Joel Mametis, driver of a Valisno Express Bus.

Police reports said Costo issued a traffic ticket to Mametis, who allegedly bribed him and who also refused to hand over his driver's license to the police officer.

Due to a heated exchange between two, Costo admitted to hitting Mametis' face.

In an interview, Metro Manila police chief Guillermo Eleazar said Costo's action was not justified.

"Never, never mong sasaktan, dahil contrary 'yun sa ating sinumpaang tungkulin," Eleazar told reporters Thursday.

[Translation: You should never, never hurt them. That is contrary to our sworn mandate.]

The policeman is now relieved from his post and reassigned to the Regional Headquarters Support Group of the Metro Manila police.

Costo is facing an administrative case for simple misconduct, but he may also face a criminal case for slight physical injury, Eleazar said.
