Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 9) — Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said President Rodrigo Duterte is paranoid.

The senator was referring to an earlier statement made by Duterte that the Liberal Party was working with communists and Trillanes to remove him from office.

Speaking to reporters Sunday, Trillanes said, "An ouster plot? Mga guni-guni niya 'yan sa kanyang utak kasi paranoid na sya."

[Translation: An ouster plot? He's imagining things because he's paranoid.]

Trillanes was speaking from his office in the Senate where he has been staying for six days now.

He said he feels better now because he was able to sleep last night despite having cough and cold.

Vice President Leni Robredo also refuted Duterte's claim that the Liberal Party was part of a plot to unseat him.

'Paras' plan is harassment'

Trillanes was visited by Magdalo Partylist Representative Gary Alejano, who also denied there were plans to oust Duterte.

He said the plan of Labor Undersecretary Jing Paras to file a case of inciting to sedition against Trillanes is harassment.

Alejano added the filing of the libel case against Trillanes by presidential son Paolo Duterte and presidential son-in-law Manases Carpio was a way to silence the senator.

Alejano maintained Trillanes will not cower.

"Maliwanag talaga [It's clear] they wanted to silence Sen. Trillanes. Kinasuhan nila ng [They filed] a libel case, inciting to sedition. Different angles atake nila [They're coming from different angles] but will not stop Senator Trillanes from doing his mandate to be the voice of the people from the opposition. Kung matakot tayo lahat sino na lang magsasalita [If we all are afraid, who will speak up] and not allow the abuses of this admin," he said.

Alejano insisted they would not resort to any illegal means to remove the President.

"'Di ko nga alam bakit napapraning siya. Walang ganun. Kami nag-aagree din na we should go through the processes. We should avail of the legal means. 'Di pwede lumabas tayo sa pagpapatanggal ng Pangulo illegally. Sa amin ang decision sa pagtanggal nya, taong bayan yan, hindi yan sa amin," he said.

[Translation: I don't know why he's paranoid. There is nothing like that. We agree that we should go through the processes. We should avail of the legal means. We should not use illegal means in the ouster of the President. The decision isn't up to us, it's from the people.]

He added, "Natural lang ang mag-uusap kami ng Liberal Party kasi bahagi kami ng opposition. Mag-uusap talaga kami... As to the Communist Party of the Philippines, alam naman natin may kaalyado sila sa Kongreso. Bawal ba sila kausapin? Eh opposition na rin sila... Ibig sabihin, nag-uusap sa ibang bagay pero hindi ho kami magkasama."

[Translation: It's but natural for us to speak with the Liberal Party because we are part of the opposition. As to the Communist Party of the Philippines, we know they have allies in Congress. Is it forbidden to talk to them? They are the opposition as well... meaning we talk about some things pero we are not together.]
