Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 8) Former Communications Assistant Secretary and blogger Mocha Uson confirmed on Monday that she was running for public office in the 2019 midterm polls to give a voice to ordinary citizens.

In a post on her Facebook page, Uson did not specify what elective post she was going for but a photo that came with her message had the Senate logo in the background.

"Ako ay tatakbo na, dahil mapalad pa nga ako na nakakasagot ako sa blog ko pero paano ang mga ordinaryong Pilipino na walang paraan sumagot sa mga fake news ng ilang media," Uson wrote on her page Monday night.

[Translation: I have decided to run, because I am fortunate enough that I am able to voice my opinions through my blog. But how about ordinary Filipinos who can't fight fake news in media?]

"Kaya dahil po diyan sa nangyari na paninira sa akin, naniniwala po ako na paninira 'yan sa politika dahil akala nila ako ay tatakbo…  So challenge po sa akin yan na bibigyan ko po ng boses ang ordinaryong Pilipino kaya tatakbo na," she told reporters earlier in the day.

[Translation: Because of the backlash against me, I believe politics is behind this because they think I will run (in 2019). So this is a challenge to me -- to give a voice to ordinary Filipinos. That's why I will run.]

Seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as local government posts are open in the 2019 midterm polls.

The former assistant secretary also denied reports that President Rodrigo Duterte actually fired her, calling these "fake news."

Uson stepped down from her post in the Presidential Communications Operations Office last week.
