Top military intelligence officer is next Army chief

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 11) — Maj. Gen. Macairog Alberto, chief of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, is the next Commanding General of the Philippine Army.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Thursday confirmed he received Alberto's appointment papers from the Office of the President.

President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Alberto to replace Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito Bautista, who is retiring from service on October 15.

Prior to assuming the top military intelligence post last year, Alberto served as commander of Task Force Davao from 2014 to 2015, when Duterte was mayor of Davao City.
