Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 7) — Customers of power distributor Meralco will be billed more in November due to higher generation and transmission rates.

Meralco said on Wednesday rates are slightly higher by ₱0.1135 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

This translates to a ₱23 increase in the bill of a typical household consuming 200 kWh.

The power distributor pointed to higher prices at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and Malampaya natural gas facility because of higher demand.

Meralco said higher WESM charges drove the generation cost up by ₱0.0817/kWh from ₱5.1908/kWh in October to ₱5.2725.

It added that the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines slightly raised transmission charges by ₱0.0021/kWh, while taxes and other charges went up by ₱0.0297/kWh.

However, the cost of power from independent power producers and power supply agreements went down by ₱0.1450/kWh and ₱0.5611/kWh, respectively.

The higher November charges followed two consecutive power rate reductions by ₱0.1458/kWh in September and ₱0.0966/kWh in October.
