Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 9) — Fire hit the armory of the Philippine Navy in Naval Base Heracleo Alano in Sangley Point, Cavite Friday morning.

The blaze started in one igloo housing ammunition for M14, M16, 9MM and M203 guns at around 5:30 a.m., and was extinguished at 7:53 a.m, according to Philippine Navy spokesperson Jonathan Zata. No injuries and deaths were reported in the incident.

Zata said investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident, which caused limited damage.

"These igloos are designed to withstand internal and external explosions similar to what occurred a while ago. We have approximately four feet in thickness and it has doors that could withstand heavy explosion as well. So the adjacent igloos, even the other facilities were not affected," Zata told CNN Philippines.

He added that residents near the arms depot were unaffected by the fire as they were located some two kilometers away.

Residents and ships near the naval base were also evacuated to protect them from any possible explosions.

CNN Philippines’ Carolyn Bonquin and David Santos contributed to this report.
