Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 16) — Ilocos Norte Governor Imelda Marcos finally made her appearance at the Sandiganbayan on Friday. She rode a white minibus, but what's striking was it still used a No. 8 plate — two days after it was ordered recalled.

House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday ordered lawmakers to immediately return the protocol plates with the number 8 issued to the House members in the previous Congress.

Land Transportation Office Director for Law Enforcement Francis Almora said they will check the report. He also said the plate number was possibly issued from years ago as Marcos has been a congresswoman since 2010.

"In the case po siguro ni Congresswoman Marcos, hindi po ba tuloy-tuloy ang tenure niya? Siguro hindi natanggal," he told CNN Philippines on Friday.

In 2016, then House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez issued a memorandum asking congressmen to return the plates following reports that cars marked with "8" were seen in indecent places and involved in crime-related incidents.

Andaya reminded fellow solons to comply with the memorandum following a recent controversy where a sports utility vehicle with the plate number 8 was caught on surveillance video in a road rage incident in Pampanga.

Pampanga 1st District Rep. Jon Lazatin has since denied involvement in the mauling incident. The suspect turned out to be a band member who does not have ties to any lawmaker.
